The Trailer is Looking at Me, Ray

We may be heading towards yet another summer of some Old Testament, wrath of God type stuff.

A Ghostbusters reboot is just a few months away.

Was this a good idea?

How do you top Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson?
(Hint: Nobody can)

Will an all-female cast of Ghostbusters hold their own?

One thing is is for sure: The 1984 original and 1989 sequel are absolutely untouchable in the Ghostbusters universe.

The second thing for sure is there’s a new reboot coming July 15th with an all-female cast and they appear ready to add an entertaining chapter to this epic story of green slime, proton packs and refrigerators from hell.

Doesn’t this movie seem perfect for Sandra Bullock and Julia-Louis Dreyfus?

Well, they weren’t called.

However, we do know who was called and it looks like they get into some exciting conflicts with some new ghosts. Above all else, hopefully they remembered that age old proverb:

When somebody asks you if you’re a God (or Goddess), you say yes!

Nothing Theoretical About It

(City of Pasadena, William Boyer)

This is not a show prop.

To celebrate tonight’s 200th Big Bang Theory episode (with a cameo from TV’s Batman Adam West), the real city where the fictional show takes place made a real proclamation to honor the fictional show’s impact in the real world.

February 25th is officially, “The Big Bang Theory Day” in the southern California city that harbors scientific genius at Caltech and the most delicious cheesecake in Los Angeles. A good question to contemplate is whether the greater achievement is having a day dedicated to a show or that a show filmed its 200th episode with no signs of slowing down?

It’s like asking who wears tighter pants: Penny or Howard?

The science-based sitcom will, years after its finale (whenever that is) leave a sustaining mark on Pasadena. Many sitcoms are based in or generically around large cities, like New York, Chicago, Philadelphia, Seattle and Los Angeles. Few are set in a specific, real-life community. The setting for The Big Bang Theory has (evidently) become its own leading character. Real restaurants, streets, destinations and schools are frequently mentioned in the show’s dialogue and plot lines.

The city of Pasadena means many things to many people, residents and visitors alike. The Rose Bowl parade certainly comes to mind. Ultimately, Pasadena is a familiar suburb within opulent Los Angeles.

And now there’s proof that Pasadena is the spot for the amalgamation of science and comedy.

Elocution’s Big Adventure

“Speak softly and carry a big stick…”
–Theodore Roosevelt

Projecting the right tone can be everything. No matter the endeavor, whether personal or professional, people respond to what and how they hear things.

During acting classes, vocal training and breathing exercises are no joke. In high school, reading from a textbook to the class in timid fashion can brand you for life in a not so flattering light. Mumbling words when hanging out with friends will spark an awkward question-and-answer session.

On the other hand, firmly taking a position with an assertive, yet non-abrasive tone on a controversial issue demonstrates knowledge and strength. Performing stand-up comedy that treats makes the back row sneak-in like the front row star earns street cred from the crowd. Picking the right messenger for the message is paramount (cough cough 2016 election on both sides).

However, the best way to prove the point about striking the right tone is illustrated in the remixed movie trailer of The Dark Knight Rises featuring an unlikely voice from the past.

A red and white bike riding past.

Safe to say this voice-over projects a wildly different conclusion to the Christopher Nolan trilogy that defined a generation. Despite being completely contrary to the film’s intended message, it’s one of those rare moments when the wrong tone was unthinkably transformed into the right tone by revealing a new, surprisingly entertaining perspective.

Speak softly and carry a big shtick.

BETter $2gether

$800 million for $2?

The ticket price for the Powerball Lottery seems like a clear sign to re-popularize the rarely seen (but real) two dollar bill featuring Thomas Jefferson, don’t you think?

This lottery and its eye-popping jackpot, now in its second round because of no initial winner from earlier this week, demands to be played. Not only is it affordable, but it’s fun and exciting.

Yes, the odds are sort of against us (1 in 292,201,338). Yes, $800 million is actually difficult to comprehend as being a real monetary value. And yes, remember during the drawing tomorrow to read and check your numbers very, very carefully…

The dumbest thing you can do is not risk your morning coffee money for the chance to win the $800 Powerball jackpot.

Unlike Lloyd, Christmas could come early for one of us this year!
