RD’s BFG in HD
There are no aliens, dinosaurs, sharks, artificial intelligence or adventure-prone professors (along with his trademark father-son struggle/dynamic), yet there’s new evidence that begs the question:
Has Steven Spielberg done it again with a giant that is uniquely big and friendly?
The full trailer for The BFG was released today.
As is the case for any movie that combines CGI (Computer-Generated Imagery) with real actors, the challenge is to seamlessly join the two forces within one environment without interruption. This cinematic synchronization is important because suspended belief needs to be constant for the audience to maintain its fluidity in storytelling, as well as enhance the believable factor. The absence of this relationship on-screen can generate (if even temporarily) imaginative detachments for the viewer.
A couple scenes from the trailer above reveal a slight disconnect where you can distinguish the real person and the imaginary backdrop. Is this simply an unavoidable consequence of filming in such high definition? Whatever the reason, the legendary director has earned the benefit of the doubt from his fans. Audiences should see this film in its entirety to fairly judge its comprehensive visual technique and merits.
Visually, this movie has a grand, glowing feel. The famed book of the same name certainly received the movie magic treatment.
Just as BFG author Roald Dahl did with his classic books, Steven Spielberg is taking a chance venturing off into a fantasy world and, ultimately, into our imaginations.
That’s something we can all connect with this summer.

UNC v. Villanova.
The 2016 NCAA National Championship game is set to take off in Houston, Texas at NRG Stadium, which will inspire either Chapel Hill or Philadelphia to erupt in celebration late tonight as this season’s king of college basketball.
Even though there is no Cinderella in the title game, the two major programs (sporting varying shades of blue) will have a David v. Goliath aura. The Tar Heels currently have 5 championships to their name, while the Wildcats have one title.
Roy Williams will have the opportunity to hoist his 3rd national championship as the head coach of UNC in 11 years. When you consider the relentless competition from teams around the country and the recruitment cycle and enrolling players and graduating players, winning 3 national championships in 11 years would be an incredible achievement.
In order for Roy Williams and his team to cap off (and earn another cap/hat) another golden season, the Tar Heels will have to beat a talented Villanova squad that embarrassed the Oklahoma Sooners in the Final Four with the final score of 95-51. The challenge is there and, before UNC can cut down the nets for the 6th time, they will need to burn the nets with three’s and two’s NBA Jam-style and rattle the rim with dunks.

The Minions Experiment: Part II?
Columbus Crew SC owner Anthony Precourt’s Twitter:
“The colors Black & Gold also feel stale and dated after 21 years…#CrewSC”
This is the same person who approved (and possibly initiated) the mind-boggling “City of Columbus”/Minions kits with the light blue shorts and a jersey with strange looking yellow streaks down the middle. Mr. Precourt has certainly made some good decisions for the club. That’s a fact. But he also continues to make recent error after recent error. For starters, he didn’t appear to firmly stand up to LAFC for literally stealing the Crew’s signature (and MLS exclusive) Black & Gold color scheme. The Crew is even nicknamed, “The Black & Gold.”
Fans certainly had strong reactions to the new soccer kits for this season, which inspired a Jimmy Kimmel “Mean Tweets” video segment.
With that being said, there is one thing that’s for damn certain with his latest tweet!
He might finally understand the genuine backlash over whimsically changing the Crew’s beloved branding identity.
Well played, Mr. Precourt, well played.
That was a good April Fools’ joke, except for the fact that half of Crew Nation probably has just cause for suspecting he’s not altogether kidding. We’ll find a little more about whether he considers himself an owner of an MLS club or if he is indeed a convert to the history, spirit and embodiment of the Columbus Crew SC. How will he react when LAFC officially unveils its black and gold kits? When LAFC plays its first game at MAPFRE Stadium?
Until then, it’s okay to joke about this on April Fools’ via Twitter. However, it’s what he does after today that will reveal whether he’s a real favorite among fans. Mr. Precourt has done many good things for Crew Nation and Columbus, but it’s time he starts defending his (and our) Columbus Crew SC and its defining colors with the tenacity of Mike Clark or Todd Yeagley.
And like the old #3 and #6, fans would be just fine if Anthony Precourt earned a yellow card (so-to-speak) for unequivocally defending The Black & Gold.
He Was Gunning for Them
Arsenal (“The Gunners”) have not had many reasons to celebrate in triumphant fashion in recent years, yet they’re reminded at every home game at Emirates Stadium of the eternal truth that one goal can change everything.
To celebrate this “Throwback Thursday,” let’s visually travel back to the far back yesteryear of 2002. The match was Arsenal hosting its bitter rival Tottenham Hotspur and the player was Thierry Henry. If you’re struggling to place Thierry Henry, he’s that world-class French forward who doesn’t run in strides, but glides with speed and cool precision.
I present the story of his goal and its iconic (and elaborate) celebration that literally and figuratively cemented Mr. Henry’s legacy in London.
