The Gravity Between Ocean’s

Why Ocean’s 8? That’s the first question.

Will the all-female extension of the George Clooney and Brad Pitt-led Ocean’s trilogy live up to the hype? Was Ocean’s 8 cast correctly? Is Ocean’s 8 already being set-up for sequels to a shared Ocean’s universe?

Let’s take a two-minute glimpse into Sandra Bullock’s character and her story + her seven uniquely-skilled friends.

Intriguing? Yes. Next-level writing and acting for the fourth chapter of the acclaimed Ocean’s trilogy? Hmm, we’ll have to wait and see. One thing is for certain: If there’s an actress who can drive the party bus of an all-female Ocean’s film (with a few twists-and-turn surprises), it’s Sandra Bullock.

The real Met Gala will be on May 7, but Ocean’s 8 arrives in movie theaters on June 8.

Bayern Munich Is Not Loyola-Chicago

Lionel Messi and Barcelona did not earn their way into the final four of the UEFA Champions League after a shocking 3-nil defeat against Roma that sent Roma to the semifinals based on away goals. Whoa.

“Of course that was a warning,” Robben told reporters. “It shows that everything can happen in football.”

And you thought college basketball had a monopoly on madness this time of year.

Soccer is the world’s game and one of this sport’s eternal truths is that anything can happen. The biggest clubs can dominate or stumble in spectacular fashion (see above). That’s part of soccer’s beauty. Another part of this sport’s amazing DNA is that–if approached with hard work, tact, talent, and patience–teams can set themselves up to peak at exactly the right time.

Enter the 2017/2018 Bayern Munich squad.

Will Bayern Munich win the Champions League en route to another treble under the management of world-class coach Jupp Heynckes? We’ll see soon.

Most pundits have been critical of Bayern Munich this season outside the Bundesliga. Fair points have been made here and there, I suppose. Still, they’ve been tagged–as a result of a few less than stellar/perfect performances–with an underdog tag for the Champions League.

Well, those same “experts” may want to review the tape and “underdog” roster of Bayern Munich one more time…

because Liverpool, Roma, and Real Madrid certainly are.

The draw for the semifinal matchups is this Friday. Stay tuned to Jimmy’s Daily Planet for the must-see fixtures.

P.S. Bayern Munich has dominated the Bundesliga and has qualified for the UEFA Champions League semifinal without Manuel Neuer. Or, in other words, the world’s best goalkeeper. How many other clubs could do that? Just saying.

Happy Monday!

As the Star Wars universe continues to expand into the future in a variety of ways, the beloved franchise is simultaneously taking us back into the past. Cinematically, the first of these stories was the 2016 film Rogue One, which received positive reviews. And for good reason. Now it’s Solo’s turn.

Han Solo.

At least we know who shot the first solo Solo movie:

Directors Chris Miller & Phil Lord, then director Ron Howard.

Have a Better Week Than Last Week.

Ready to See the Future?

You’re not seeing things:

Steven Spielberg is now a hologram.

Part of the story in Ready Player One is the exploration of the line between reality and virtual reality (VR) in society in 2045, centered in Columbus, Ohio. Rest assured that this blog won’t just reveal spoilers for film and TV without a bold, unmistakable disclaimer. For this specific blog post, have no worries as there are no film or story spoilers here.

Having said that, the special hologram version of Mr. Spielberg is the latest spotlight of the continued blurring of lines between reality and virtual reality that’s existed in various forms for some time now. This cool tech in the video above–also utilized in the original Star Wars trilogy from back in the ’70s and ’80s with Princess Leia–is an example of VR that can live harmlessly in reality.

Bonus points coins would’ve been given to Steven Spielberg and the team at IMAX if they could’ve created and then broadcasted the beloved storyteller’s avatar that would live in the Oasis.

Oh well.

BTW – If you have not seen Ready Player One directed by legendary filmmaker Steven Spielberg in theaters on the biggest screen possible, then you should probably get on that ASAP with IMAX.
