I Should Have Asked for a Quill Pen for Christmas

‘Tis the perfect day to reflect on Christmas in the spirited mindset of an Oliver Twist-era poem (inspired by Barney Stinson and Ted Mosby, of course)

“To Grandma’s house we go!” the children gleefully shouted on a morning so chilly,
and fortunately for all of them, the trek wasn’t too hilly
With the sun shining bright, everyone packed their cars with gifts wrapped altogether neatly,
they knew each person would enjoy their presents completely and clearly
The food was delicious, all warm and toasty,
that the chaotic bustling was reduced to a setting quite cozy
A wine rack here, a signed book there, memories were created with tears of joy,
then the Griswolds took over with scenes of comedic madness, oh boy!
An elaborate fort was built, no parents allowed,
this made the children so happy and ecstatically proud
Once the feast was eaten, presents opened and thanks were said all around,
we made sure not to forget about the man with the golden birthday crown
After all, it was a day to celebrate the son of G-O-D
by gazing at the stunning ornaments on our beloved Christmas tree!

I Hope Everybody Had a Merry Christmas!!

Peacefully Whisked Away

Here’s a little taste of my recent trip to Gatlinburg, Tennessee for the long Memorial Day weekend with some of my family:

“What kind of fruit is in the fruit cup?” my sister asked,
“Fruit” was the waitress’s response, so pithy and fast
We all got a big laugh as we came to realize in that instance,
of the unfiltered truth of the Volunteer State and its simplistic brilliance
The journey was an experience, that’s for sure,
especially traveling with two small children, with screams so pure
The imaginative street signs, the trees, the smoky mountains and the clean, crisp air,
is enough to immerse oneself into the culture and rock back and forth without a care
This includes playing miniature golf on a hillside one Saturday night,
at a place called “Hillbilly Golf,” which left us helplessly joking with smiles so bright
“Is that King Kong climbing on the side of that building over there?”
Sure it is, because why not? It’s just a little Tennessee flair
Up, down, and around we drove the mountain roads, searching for the place,
with the rooms to sleep in that had a view that would pleasantly shock any grumpy face
Overlooking at the towns below was a wondrous site,
peaking over the edge at the maximum height
The two-story cabin was beautiful, a great home base,
a perfect location to find some natural grace
The food was delicious, with breakfast setting the tone,
from the bacon to the eggs and french toast, it got us all into the Southern zone
This past weekend was an adventure, aided by a soothing breeze,
especially for those who zip-lined through and over the trees
Turning 180 degrees, the canon ball and the front flip,
were just a few of the ways to do a ‘Tennessee zip’
But for those who didn’t fly through the air with an audible swish,
they took a walk across a stunning bridge and made a special wish
Strolling through town, there were sights to remember, including the borderline eerie,
like venturing through pottery stores, goofy t-shirt warehouses and getting a picture with the cardboard gang of “The Big Bang Theory!”
And being from Ohio, there’s something all us Ohioans know,
which is whenever and wherever we hear OH-we always respond with an enthusiastic IO!
Monday was special occasion and not just for all those who protect us,
but because it was also the birthday for one of my sisters, a terrific plus!
Gifts were purchased and people relaxed in rare moments of serenity,
it was the ideal setting to rejuvenate one’s identity

Tennessee, I’d volunteer another weekend for you!

Where Am I?

Time for another installment of “Where Am I?”

This post will include the clues and the destination will be revealed tomorrow.

I’m feeling a little poetic today…

Situated against a Western hill, there’s no concern of stability,
here you sip the world away in a buzz of tranquility
The sight from inside, blocked and closed-in,
sitting anywhere but out should be considered a sin
In the morning, there’s a dew, but not from a mountain,
chances are good your trip took you past a sparkling fountain
While it’s not Langley, it shares the name, you might say,
which is fitting, for it too is an open secret, starring the color grey
Window by window, stone by stone, it was built for the palate,
perhaps you’ll spot something resembling a galette
Pour over your options, do yourself this favor,
because when it comes to B-L-or D, it’ll serve something you’ll forever savor!

Good Luck and Get Your Guesses Ready!

Feeling the Light

Some hold, some stand by,
and surely, there’s a reason why
It’s not just uncomfortable, but unnerving,
this is blatantly clear for all those observing
On the dance floor, he’s hesitant to take hold,
and with this absence, she’s definitively unsold
What is the problem? He wonders all day…
on the tip of his tongue, he then realizes the time has come to swim in the bay,
The night is right with a peaceful sky and stars aligned,
he knows he must take a deep breath if he is going to find,
The treasure sought by all of mankind
Some discover it on the surface, others in depths so deep,
that’s it’s only been seen in an imaginative sleep
When he notices a flicker, he instinctively follows the glow,
and it’s here where everything will finally show
It’s just the case that some must wait to see the reveal,
but once it arrives, it does so with great zeal
The moment has come to dance once again to see what unfolds,
and, as a magnificent surprise, everything around him starts to take hold
