I know it’s not Christmas yet, but the holiday season is under way. You’ll see what I mean in a minute.
As your family gathers together around a grand feast and expresses what they’re thankful for, we must recognize this is the 21st century. The way we celebrate has changed from years past. Technology is a constant presence in our lives, for both good and bad.
This is one of the good times.
Any excuse to play that heartwarming commercial from Apple during the holiday season…
I hope that everyone is ready to enjoy a great Thanksgiving with loved ones tomorrow!
Today Had a Nice Finish
The forecast was warm with bold sun rays and accents of streaky clouds and a lingering oaky aroma that provided just the perfect environment to take everything in with deep, sustained breathing. For lunch, I ate an English muffin with bright strokes of palatable butter. This meal proved to be a great pairing for the day.
In case you didn’t know, May 25th is National Wine Day!
(The one day I don’t eat anything with cheese…)
Whether you’re a fan of red wines or white wines (or both), these intoxicating beverages are a sophisticated escape with no discernible downside. First, there’s no real rush to finish. The last sip is as good as the first, if not better. Second, the ingredients in great wines are varied, intricate and pleasantly surprising, coalescing into a superb finish.
Then, of course, there are the two ends of the wine tasting spectrum: The beginner and the expert. Discussing wine on a molecular level with a group of people (now it’s a party!), at least since 2004, usually leads to at least one reference to the movie Sideways. The dark comedy starring Thomas Haden Church and Paul Giamatti, and co-starring northern California’s wine country, centers on two best friends on a bachelor weekend of sorts.
Jack (Thomas Haden Church) and Miles (Paul Giamatti) are a classic case of a wine beginner and a wine connoisseur.
We’ve all been here, as either Jack or Miles.
Well, as Jack.
Judge all you want Miles, but I’d try a piece of Merlot chewing gum.
Merry Christmas!
Frank Sinatra would have turned 100 years young this year.
Sinatra was one of the greatest singers the world has ever known. A true one-of-a-kind. Lucky for us, he shared his talent for a Christmas classic.
Even luckier is watching a video edited by Kate Beske, who put Sinatra’s rendition of the Judy Garland song, “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” to a beautiful slideshow.
Hopefully, you had yourself a merry little Christmas!
Coldplay on a Warm Day
Something special is lighting up the sky.
Spending Christmas eve with family is a joyous occasion, including the surprisingly warm temperatures. Typically, snow flurries would be covering the ground and car windshields by this time of the year. But alas, Mother Nature has granted us an extra dose of sun instead in the Buckeye state.
From evening Church and being reminded of the wonder of our Lord to being together for an after-service dinner and enjoying the comedy stylings of the Griswolds, this is one of those days that shines above. And even though there are classic Christmas songs from yesteryear that we should be listening to on repeat this holiday season, it’s nice to enter a new CD into the disc-changing rotation every once in a while (man, I’m old).
Coldplay’s 2010 holiday stunner, “Christmas Lights” deserves a listen to on everybody’s night shift.
And the video is classic Coldplay and, therefore, quite wonderful.
Taking a moment to gaze at colorfully inspiring lights during the Christmas season really is heavenly.
