The Soccer-Pointer

Basketball games are filled with lots of points. They’re not hard to come by. Conversely, goals in soccer are (comparatively) significantly more rare, but lauded with comparable energy and jubilation as an alley-oop, backboard-breaking slam dunk or buzzer-beating 3-pointer.

So, how would world-class footballers fare in the world of basketball, with that tiny hoop and a regulation size 5 soccer ball? Interestingly, a layup seems more impressive when soccer players do it:

The half-court heave has nothing on this:

“Basketttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt!!!!!”

(That’s soccer for, “Yeah, that just happened”).

Happy Monday!

Do you like big fish?

Let me rephrase that: Do you like the movie Big Fish? If so, Colin Hanks, Catherine O’Hara and J.K. Simmons have come together to star in a television/web series that plays on a similar spirit as the aforementioned classic called, “What Lives Inside.”

The show airs with new 13-minute episodes on Hulu for free (a quick search on a web browser) every Wednesday, with its series premiere ready for all to enjoy.

Right in the Middle of It All

Basketball season is in full swing, both at the collegiate and professional levels. Watching the athletic dunks, improbable shots and skill (not ability, but skill!) of the best players is great fun. Still, no player quite compares to my favorite basketball player of all-time: Penny Hardaway. Penny made crazy shots that were highlights every night for the Orlando Magic. Plus, he dished some stellar passes to this short and shy guy named Shaq. Hardaway also had the best little brother in the wise-cracking, Chris Rock-voiced Lil’ Penny.

And yet, his legacy is being defined in a middle school gym in Tennessee.

Penny Hardaway’s Legacy: Instead of offering our “two cents,” let’s volunteer one cent.
